The East Africa Public Relations Week (EAPRW) is set to make a significant impact as it returns for its third edition, scheduled from September 23rd to 27th, 2024, in Tanzania. This annual event, organized by the East Africa PR Association (EAPRA), continues its mission to elevate the role of Public Relations (PR) and communication across the region, with this year's theme being "United by Purpose, Bound by Destiny: Harnessing the Power of PR in East Africa's Collective Journey.

Background

Established in 2022, the East Africa PR Association (EAPRA) was created with the vision of advancing PR and communication within the region. One of its primary objectives is the creation of the East African Communications Commission, aimed at securing observer status at the East African Community (EAC) Affairs Headquarters. This initiative underscores the importance of PR and communication at the highest levels of decision-making within the EAC.

A key resolution of EAPRA was the introduction of the East Africa Public Relations Week (EAPRW), hosted on a rotational basis by member countries. The inaugural EAPRW took place in Mombasa, Kenya, in November 2022, followed by the second edition in Uganda in 2023. This year, Tanzania will host the conference, furthering the tradition of fostering regional collaboration and PR excellence.

Conference Objectives

The EAPRW 2024 aims to bring together a diverse group of professionals, industry experts, thought leaders, and communication students from across the region. The conference seeks to achieve several key objectives:

3.      Professional Development: Offering an engaging program that includes panel discussions, keynote addresses, breakout sessions, and interactive workshops designed to enhance participants' skills, knowledge, and expertise in the PR field.

4.      Regional Integration: Discussing the crucial role and position of PR in advancing the East African Community's integration agenda.

Target Audience

The conference is expected to attract a wide range of participants, including Ministers of ICT from the region, EAC Ministers, Government Spokespersons, PR practitioners, and experts from various fields. Additionally, representatives from international delegations, including the Africa PR Association (APRA), the International PR Association, and the Global Alliance for Communication, will be in attendance. The event will also welcome government and private sector officials, CEOs, marketers, advertisers, academia, communication students, civil society members, journalists, and media professionals.
